Speakers Bureau

Overview:

The Community Justice  Speakers Bureau is a unique intergenerational training program to help both millennial thought leaders and formerly incarcerated organizers in the gun violence prevention and criminal justice space improve their public speaking skills, be able to tell their stories in a thoughtful and meaningful way, market their skills and expertise to increase the number of speaking requests they receive, and be able to connect with a wide range of audiences on a local and national level. This training program will also be unique as both formerly incarcerated individuals over the millennial age group, and millennials will learn these skill sets in a joint cohort.

Over many years, people across the country have joined in telling us the story of people of color effected by the criminal justice system, and gun violence prevention. At the same time, their voices are heard less in the halls of Congress, on mainstream media, and on digital platforms. We feel that it is important to broaden and diversify the voices that are heard on the local, state and national level around these interconnected issues.

The Speakers Bureau will be lead by a team of  thought leaders, and CJRC will kick off this program in August of 2017. The goal will be for the first class to work to refine and utilize these new skills learned, including co-hosting CJRC monthly advocacy update calls for non-network members, and to help to lead train the trainer sessions at follow up events throughout 2017 and 2018.
